New Applications
A total of one hundred and twenty (120) students’ and six (6) professional membership applications were submitted for processing and consideration by the Council since last AGM.
Chapter Meetings
A total of three chapter meetings were held in the period under review. The last meeting was held on 18th September, 2014.
The Chairman addressed the problem of the forthcoming conference at Lagos and to sensitize members on the need to prepare their extended abstract and carry out other logistics. Members were advised to pay what they owe before this conference.
Department of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Benin
A new department of Food Science and Nutrition was approved by the Authority University of Benin. About N30Million worth of equipment and a new departmental story building was approved for the youngest department in UniBen. About 17 academic staff has been recruited. Admision will commence 2014/ 2015 academic session.
Food Week
The 2014 edition of the annual “Food Week”/ Exhibition organized by the Department of Food Technology, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi took place in the Polytechnic on the 5th of August, 2014. A lecture tittled ‘Processing of raw tropical agricultural produce as a means of extending food shelf-life and enhancing availability of foods’ was delivered by Engr. Oladipo Ajayi of the Department of Agricultural and Bio-environmental Engineering Technology, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi.
The ‘Food Week’/ Exhibition was well attended by Management of Auchi Polytechnic, Officers of the Nigerian Army, Police, Road Safety, Deans and Directors of Auchi Polytechnic, and members of Students’ Union Government.
New Appointment
Elijah Afehomo (Principal Lecturer) has been appointed Head, Department of Food Technology, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi. While my humble self was appointed the Dean, School of Applied Sciences & Technology, Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi.
