MONTHLY GENERAL MEETING:
Since the last Lagos Chapter AGM, the chapter held Seven (7) general meetings successfully at the Engineering building and Senior Staff Recreation Center of FIIRO between March and September.
We seize this opportunity to express our profound gratitude to the Director General of FIIRO for her usual numerous support to the Chapter.
FINANCE:
We received the part payment of our members’ subscriptions total sum of N 148,500 from the National Council. We are indeed very grateful to the National Treasurer for the timely disbursement which came as a rescue fund. We will appreciate it if the remaining part is paid to us immediately as we need it for other scheduled programs.
However, we are still working tirelessly on members to pay up their annual subscriptions and chapter dues as soon as possible.
NIFST DAY CELEBRATIONS:
The NIFST Day was held on 4th and 5th June 2014. We visited Ikosi Market on 4th June for pre-NIFST Day Awareness/ Enlightenment Campaign to the market men and women. While in the market the Nifsters delivered interactive lectures on Food Hygiene and Food Safety. We also distributed food hygiene hand bills and posters (sponsored by Lagos NIFST and WHO) to the market people.
The Baba Oloja, Iya Oloja and many other market men and women were in attendance sharing their experiences as well as asking questions on how they can handle, prepare, store and serve their foods, fruits and vegetables and ensure they are safe for consumption both in the market and at home.
On the 5th June, NIFST Day was held at the premises of Ikosi/Isheri LCDA which featured a Key note address on ‘’Food Hygiene, Safety and Security for both local and global investment benefit’’ delivered by Mr. Nureni Opaleye, Commercialization Manager, Coca-Cola. Other important dignitaries present were the Executive Chairman of Ikosi/Isheri LCDA, Hon. Abdul-Fatai Ayodele Oyesanya, HRM Oba Alamu Oloyede Onikosi, Oba of Ikosi/Kosofe Land. The occasion was chaired by a Fellow of NIFST, Mr. Oluwole Olusanya. We received financial supports from Mr. R.O Olawale and Prince Dr. Bola Oshinowo. We are very grateful to them and others for the supports.
ZONAL REPORTS:
Our efforts towards reviving the Zones are yielding results but very slow. However we are hopeful that it will improve soon.
NEW MEMBERS:
In the last seven meetings we received and welcome about (35) new members that cut across public and private sectors as well as academia/research while we had secured about 100 applications for intending new members
CHALLENGES:
We still face the issues of late or non-payment of membership subscriptions, inadequate fund for our programs and non-functioning zones and inconsistent attendance of meetings by members particularly old and senior members.
