The presentations at the conference informed participants that genetically modified foods are safe but the processes need to be handled by experts. There are so many traditional food ingredients with novel and health promoting properties that are resourceful as biotechnological resources; Government needs to partner professional bodies like NIFST in actualizing desirable modified traditional food products towards food and nutrition security of the people. The conference moderated by Prof. Mrs Abimbola Uzomah, former editor in chief of NIFOJ, concluded that Genetically/Biotechnologically modified foods is still evolving in Nigeria and thus continuous advocacy, stakeholder engagements, agricultural policy harmonization are much needed.
