Payscale: £38,511 to £47,328 per annum (Lecturer) or £48,743 to £54,841 per annum (Associate Professor)
We seek to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Lecturer or Associate Professor to contribute to development and leadership of teaching, research and enterprise activities in the area of Food Processing.
The Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences is the largest academic unit of its kind in the UK, recognised nationally and internationally for the quality of its research and teaching to Undergraduate and Masters level students. In the Research Excellence Framework 2014, the University of Reading was ranked 4th out of 29 submissions for ‘research power’ in Food and Agriculture, scoring the maximum possible rating for research environment, with 45% of our overall research profile judged to be world-leading and 85% of the impact of our research on society judged to be of top international quality. Our Grade Point Average score is an outstanding 3.24, one of the highest in the UK within the sector. The overarching strategy is to improve the quality of food to deliver health benefits for society through improved processing and nutrition. The Department has excellent research facilities which include state of the art teaching laboratories, a recently refurbished food processing pilot plant, a clinical human nutrition unit, well equipped research laboratories, and access to a state-of-the-art Chemical Analysis Facility.
This appointment is closely aligned with our desire to develop an inspiring teaching and learning environment for our students in Food Processing and carry out innovative research which will make a difference to society and industry stakeholders.
The successful candidate should have:
·         PhD in Food Processing, Chemical Engineering or related subject
·         Excellent knowledge of Food Processing Principles and Unit Operations and applying food processing technologies for enhancement of product quality
·         Ability to develop innovative approaches for teaching food processing (theoretical principles, integrated applications and pilot plant practicals) at Undergraduate and Masters levels
·         Experience in developing high quality innovative research
·         Track record of research publications in high quality international journals
·         Evidence of potential for securing independent research grants
·         Enthusiasm, self-motivation, and ability to build good relationships internally and externally
